Dashiell Hammett, Dell Paperbacks and Mapbacks

Any of you out there interested in Dashiell Hammett, The Continental Op, Dell paperbacks or even something I'd never heard of - mapbacks, simply must go to Dave Lewis' blog, Davey Crockett's Almanack to see his post - he tells the story of getting his first mapback and there's a great story with it.

Dell Mapbacks are just about one of the most collectible types of vintage paperbacks, right up there with Ace Doubles, Gold Medals, Signets, Ballantine, etc.

At one time I used to travel all over the State of NJ in my quest to complete my Dell Mapback set. The problem with completing a set is that once completed, you tend to lose interest and move on to something else.

There are over 600 Mapbacks and they are still relatively easy to obtain and inexpensive. There are a couple of reference books that deal only with the Dell Maps, artists, authors, etc.

Cool. I definitely like Hammett, though I've got most of his stuff.
